The Island
  • Tucker Rolle, the owner of Compass Cay, has lived and worked on the island since childhood. His parents and grandparents fished and farmed the island, growing corn, cassava, potatoes and pigeon peas. The ruins of their houses can be seen on the western shore. Compass Cay is named after Tucker's great grandfather, "Old Compass" because of his exceptional ability to navigate by the stars.

  • Located 65 miles southeast of Nassau and 235 miles from Fort Lauderdale, Compass Cay is a 450 acre island located near the midpoint of the Exuma Island chain that separates the shallow Exuma Banks to the west from the 6000 foot deep Exuma Sound to the East. The 120 mile long Exuma archipelago is comprised of countless islands, majestic rocks, and white sand beaches and sand bars set in crystal clear water. Compass Cay is conveniently located a mile south of the Exuma Land and Sea Park and 12 miles north of Staniel Cay.

  • Compass Cay is a natural paradise that is completely self contained with generators for electricity, propane for cooking, R.O. water, laundry and shower facilities. There are several rental cottages and a marina on this 2 mile long unspoiled haven of beaches, palms, cliffs and lagoons. There are numerous trails to walk, a creek to explore, and the ocean beach to enjoy. This beach, a spectacular half mile long crescent of fine white sand, has often been described as the best beach in the Bahamas.

  • Crystal clear waters of indescribably beautiful hues of azure blues and aquamarines surround the island. Beneath the water's surface, you will find a spectacular underwater world of exotic tropical fish in and around shallow coral reefs within easy skin diving range.

  • You can choose to be completely alone for total privacy. Or, if you prefer, you can join other guests to fish, kayak, hike, relax in the shade of the island's gathering spots, share a pot luck supper at the marina, or a sunset cocktail on the docks where you may be lucky enough the see the elusive "green flash".
